Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community
Los Angeles is one of the most prominent gay and lesbian communities in the United States, making it a hotspot for travelers looking for some fun in the sun. This is one of the best places to either kick back and relax, check out some of the excellent restaurants or party at some of the best nightclubs till the sun comes up.
Pick up a copy of Nightlife, Edge or Frontiers upon arriving in town, these have the best listings for events that are happening in the area. The Gay Community Yellow Pages is a great resource of gay businesses and services, and also publishes a gay restaurant guide.
The Hub of LA's Gay arts scene is at A Different Light, a bookstore located at 8853 Santa Monica Blvd. This place also provides a venue for readings, art shows and performances. Before a night out, stop by Raving Rainbow, a store carrying everything anyone could need to hit up the rave scene and techno nightclubs in style.
The LA area is packed with gay friendly eateries, from exclusive restaurants to funky coffee shops. The 360 Restaurant offers up a fantastic view, a romantic setting and great food. Drago serves up delicious Italian cuisine in a laid back atmosphere, while the Coffee Junction is fun and fresh, with awesome beverages and live music.
Gyms, saunas and bath houses are located in all areas of LA. Flex Bath LA on Melrose Ave. is one of the most popular in the city, and the Midtown Spa is open 24-hours a day and requires no membership.
Now that you've done some shopping, had a bite to eat and buffed up at the gym, the only thing left to do is hit up the famous LA club scene! The options here are endless, and one could spend weeks here and still not see them all. Those looking for some playful fun will want to try Cuffs, the oldest, and reputedly the sleaziest, men's bar in LA that has reached legendary status. Girl Bar LA is the city's premier women's dance club, and its resident DJ spins some of the best music in the city, making the bar a common celebrity hangout. Other bars worth checking out are Arena, Faultline Bar and The Palms.
