Knott's Berry Farm Los Angeles
Thrill seekers will not want to miss the excitement of Knott's Berry Farm. This theme park is packed with rides and amusements, and includes some of the best and most terrifying roller coasters in America. This huge park has come a long way since its humble roots in the mid 1900's, and continues to grow in popularity to this day.
Knott's Berry farm was originally just as its name indicates - a farm that grew berries - and became famous for developing a new strain of berry in the 1930's, the Boysenberry, which combines a blackberry, raspberry and loganberry. The farm's owners opened a chicken restaurant on the grounds in 1934, and due to its huge popularity customers often had to wait to get into the restaurant. Because of this, Cordelia and Walter Knott developed the Ghost Town, an attraction that was the first of Knott's Berry Farm's themed areas.
Today the farm has expanded to over 160 acres of pure fun. The Chicken restaurant is still here, serving up to 900 guests at a time. Not only that, there are now 6 different themed areas in the park, each with numerous rides and attractions. A huge water park has been built next to the farm, and a marketplace is now open with over 15 shops and restaurants to visit.
Ghost Town is an 1880's style California Boom Town complete with gold panning, staged gun fights and a steam train. The buildings here were actually transported from real mining towns throughout the west. This area has its share of rides as well, including the GhostRider, one of the longest and tallest wooden roller coasters in the world. To cool off, take a ride on the Timber Mountain Log Ride where you'll plummet down the mountainside in a rush over 24 000 gallons of water.
The Spanish-inspired Fiesta Village holds Montezooma's Revenge, a roller coaster taking passengers through two huge, seven-story loops. Kids will love the beautiful carousel and the Hat Dance ride, where passengers spin around in colorful sombreros.
The Boardwalk area celebrates California's beach culture, with fun rides like bumper cars, roller coasters and water rides. The newest addition here is the Xcelerator, a 50's themed roller coaster complete with '57 Chevy cars.
Camp Snoopy is a haven for the little ones, with rides made just for kids. Here's where they can climb on pint-sized roller coasters and other rides that are toned down just enough for them to still have a thrill, but don't pack the punch that the adult attractions have.
Prepare to get soaked in the Wild Water Wilderness area, which is home to the Big Foot Rapids ride. This is one of the best rides in the park, which takes passengers along in a raft through California's longest man-made whitewater river. Also in this part of the park are various dining and shopping facilities, with live shows and a Ranger Station where naturalists teach visitors about the wonders of California's wildlife.
Also worth checking out in the park is the Indian Trails area, where you can watch Native dance and music shows and shop for beautiful handmade crafts.
